Ingredients

1 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
4 to 5 curry leaves (kadi patta)
4 to 5 pods garlic (lehsun)
1 tsp roughly chopped ginger (adrak)
1 medium sized onion
1 medium sized tomato
1 tbsp roughly chopped coriander (dhania)
1 tbsp tamarind (imli) , deseed and roughly chopped
1 1/2 tsp chilli powder
salt to taste

For The Tempering
1 tsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1 pinch of asafoetida (hing)

Method
    Method
  1. Heat the oil in kadhai, add cumin seeds and curry leaves.
  2. When the seeds crackle add all the remaining ingredients and mix well
  3. Cook till the onions and tomatoes are completely cooked. Remove from the flame and allow to cool.
  4. Transfer the mixture in a mixer and grind to a smooth paste. Keep aside.
  5. For the tempering, heat the oil in a small non-stick pan and add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds and asafoetida.
  6. When the seeds crackle pour this tempering over the chutney and serve.
