  1. To make doodhi soup for toddlers, combine the bottle gourd and ¾ cup of water in a pressure cooker, mix well and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
  2. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.
  3. Cool slightly and blend in a mixer till smooth.
  4. Strain the mixture using a strainer.
  5. Transfer the strained mixture into a broad non-stick pan and boil on a medium flame for a minute.
  6. Serve the doodhi soup lukewarm.

Ensure that the bottle gourd has a smooth skin, is pale green in colour and free from any cuts, spots and blemishes. It should be firm to handle and the flesh should not feel soft when pressed.
  2. Wash the bottle gourd very well with clean water to make it free of dirt if any. Wash it under running water to prevent any sort of contamination.
  3. Wipe it with a clean kitchen towel and pat dry them.
  4. Cut the bottle gourd horizontally into 2 parts using a sterilized knife.
  5. Peel the bottle gourd with a sterilized peeler and discard the peels. Peel it very well so that no green part remain as these are not easily digestible by babies at 8 months.
  6. Using the sterilized knife chop the bottle gourd into medium sized pieces. Keep the chopped bottle gourd aside.
  7. Transfer the chopped doodhi pieces of bottle gourd soup for babies and kids into a pressure cooker.
  8. Add ¾ cup of water to it for cooking.
  9. Mix the ingredients of healthy dudhi soup for babies well using a ladle.
  10. Close the lid of the pressure cooker and pressure cook for 2 whistles. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.
  11. Cool the mixture of doodhi soup for toddlers and transfer it into a mixer jar.
  12. Blend it till smooth. This is how the blended mixture of lauki soup for babies looks like.
  13. Strain the mixture using a strainer if serving this soup to babies below 10 to 11 months.

We as adults may find it bland, but its quiet nourishing for babies. Do try it. It''s a good change from regular beetroot, carrot or potato soup....
