Ingredients



For the Manchurian
3 cups finely chopped cabbage
1 cup grated carrot
1 onion, chopped
2 tbsp cornflour
5 tbsp plain flour (maida)
3 to 4 cloves of garlic (lehsun), finely chopped
1 green chilli, finely chopped
2 pinches of black pepper (kalimirch) powder
1/4 tsp M.S.G (optional)
salt to taste
oil for deep frying

For the sauce
1 tbsp garlic (lehsun), finely chopped
2 tsp finely chopped green chillies
2 tsp finely chopped ginger (adrak)
1 tbsp cornflour
3/4 cup Vegetable Stock or water
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 pinches of sugar
2 tbsp oil
salt to taste

  1. Mix the cabbage, carrots, onion, cornflour, plain flour, plain flour,
  2. Garlic, green chilli, ajinomoto, salt and pepper.
  3. Shape spoonfuls of the mixture into small balls.
  4. If you find it difficult to form balls, sprinkle a little water.
  5. Deep fry in hot oil until golden brown.

For the sauce

  1. Heat the oil in a wok or frying pan on a high flame.
  2. Add the garlic, green chillies and ginger and stir fry over a high flame for a few seconds.
  3. Mix the cornflour with 1/4 cup of water.
  4. Add the stock, soya sauce, cornflour mixture, sugar and salt and cook for a few minutes.

  1. Just before serving, put the balls in the sauce and cook for a few minutes.
  2. Serve hot.
