Strikingly different from the traditional way of preparing the popular Maharashtrian snack, this Moong Dahi Misal combines the sprouts with whisked curds, along with chopped veggies, spice powders and of course, tongue-tickling khajur imli ki chutney. When you have sprouts on hand, it takes less than half an hour to prepare this wholesome and tasty treat, which is sure to delight your friends and family.

For Moong Dahi Misal
2 cups par-boiled sprouted moong (whole green gram)
1/2 cup whisked curds (dahi)
3 tbsp dates (khajur) fresh tamarind (imli) ki chutney
1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
2 tbsp finely chopped onions
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera) powder for sprinkling
1 tsp chilli powder for sprinkling
salt to taste
2 tbsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)

  1. Place 1 cup of moong sprouts on a serving plate, top with ¼ cup whisked curds, 1½ tbsp of khajur imli ki chutney, ¼ cup of tomatoes and 1 tbsp of onions.
  2. Finally sprinkle little cumin seeds powder, chilli powder and salt. Finally sprinkle coriander.
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to make 1 more serving.
  4. Serve immediately.

How to make moong dahi misal

  1. To make moong dal misal recipe | healthy moong dahi chaat | dahi moong chaat | sprouted moong dahi chaat | take moong sprouts in a deep bowl.
  2. Put little salt and enough water.
  3. Microwave on HIGH for 5 minutes. We want them par boiled and not over cooked.
  4. Drain them using a drainer.
  5. Put half the moong sprouts on a serving plate.
  6. Pour ¼ cup of curds evenly over it.
  7. Put 1½ tbsp of sweet chutney evenly over it.
  8. Sprinkle ¼ cup of tomatoes. If not looking for a healthy moong dahi misal, you can sprinkle boiled potatoes and crunchy fried snacks like sev, masala chana and peanuts.
  9. Also sprinkle 1 tbsp of onions. If you are Jain, skip adding it.
  10. Finally sprinkle cumin seeds powder. Always roast jeera before crushing it into powder to get that enhanced flavour of cumin seeds.
  11. Also, sprinkle chilli powder. If making for kids, skip adding it.
  12. Sprinkle salt.
  13. Finally sprinkle coriander.
  14. Repeat steps 5 to 13 to make 1 more serving.
  15. Serve moong dal misal | healthy moong dahi chaat | dahi moong chaat | sprouted moong dahi chaat | immediately.

Having misal, which is not too spicy, quick to make and so wholesome and made healthy. The juices of tomatoes just burst into the mouth. It is just so good.
