The Moong Dal Khichdi features an ideal combo of a cereal and a pulse, which is suitable for your baby once she has adapted to regular rice and dal mash.

Moong Dal Khichdi ( Baby and Toddler) recipe - How to make Moong Dal Khichdi ( Baby and Toddler)

Soaking time:  15 minutes   Preparation Time:    Cooking Time:    Total Time:     Makes 0.75 cups

  1. Wash and soak the green moong dal and rice in enough water for 15 minutes. Drain and keep aside.
  2. Combine the green moong dal, rice, turmeric powder and ¾ cup of water in a pressure cooker, mix well and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  3. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.
  4. Mash the khichdi very well using a potato masher.
  5. Add the ghee and mix well.
  6. Serve lukewarm.

   The best age to start weaning is after 6 months. So please consult your paediatrician before you begin early weaning at around 5 months. Also before serving this khichdi to your little one, individually serve rice and moong dal and check out for allergies if any for a week. After the baby has got used to each individually, then begin with a small portion of this khichdi.
