Mint or pudina, as it is better known in India is known for its cooling properties world over. We've all seen mint milkshakes and ice creams and mint flavoured chocolates. But there's nothing that can top a mint flavoured chaas!

This chilled concoction is just the thing one needs on a hot summer afternoon. Here I have used fresh mint for a clear garden fresh taste. Some people like to add a few drops of green colour which gives this chaas a lovely green colour but I personally do not like to add it.

Enjoy a hearty meal of dal , chawal , rotis and subzi and then have a glass of Mint Chass as it also aids digestion.

Enjoy how to make Mint Chaas recipe with detailed step by step photos below.

How to make Punjabi Mint chaas recipe

  1. To make mint chaas at home, take one fresh bunch of mint leaves.
  2. Remove the rotten leaves i.e leaves with blisters as well as black, yellow or orange spots and chop off the roots of the mint bunch. Pick the fresh leaves from the stems and discard the stems.
  3. Wash the mint sprigs under running water to get rid of any dirt and other impurities.
  4. Collect all the leaves in one place on the chopping board and roughly chop the leaves to make it easier for blending. Keep aside.
  5. In a blender, take 1 cup fresh curds. Curd is full of amazing health benefits. Here are some benefits of dahi.
  6. Add the chopped mint leaves to it.
  7. Now, add the jeera powder. Roasting cumin seeds before crushing it into a powder enhances the taste of the jeera powder.
  8. Add the green chillies paste. Also, you can add ginger paste to add more zing.
  9. Add the salt and black salt. If you are fasting, then substitute with rock salt.
  10. Combine all the ingredients in a blender and blend till smooth and frothy.
  11. Add 1½ cups of chilled water.
  12. Blend one more time and your frothy phudina chaas is ready!
  13. Pour equal quantities into 3 individual glasses.
  14. Serve immediately garnished with mint leaves.
  15. If you are not fond of phudina chaas, then enjoy salted chaas or masala chaas.

Excellent taste. I used soft tofu instead of curd. Very refreshing.

Nice smooth Chaas with a flavor of mint. I used low fat curds to make it healthy.
