1 1/2 cups plain flour (maida)
1 tsp dry yeast
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp sugar
salt to taste

  1. Combine 2 tbsp of lukewarm water and dry yeast in a bowl and mix well.
  2. Cover with a lid and keep aside for 5 minutes.
  3. Combine the plain flour, yeast-water mixture, olive oil, sugar and salt in a deep bowl and knead into a soft dough using enough water.
  4. Cover the dough with a wet muslin cloth and keep aside for 1 hour.
  5. Press the dough lightly to remove the air and divide the dough into 4 equal portions.
  6. Roll each portion into a 175 mm. (7”) diameter circle with the help of plain flour for rolling and prick each circle evenly using a fork.
  7. Place 2 circles on a greased baking tray and bake in a pre-heated oven at 180°c (360°f) for 5 minutes.
  8. Repeat step 7 to bake 2 more pizza base.

Thin Crust Pizza Base dough recipe

  1. For the homemade pizza dough recipe, in a small bowl take dry yeast.
  2. Add some sugar.
  3. Add 2 tbsp of lukewarm water. Dip your finger in water to check if it’s lukewarm or no before adding. Water that's too hot can damage or kill the yeast.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Cover with a lid and keep aside for 5 minutes. The rising time will vary as per the climatic conditions and the quality of yeast.
  6. After 5 minutes, the yeast mixture will look like this. You can see a frothy layer on top which indicates our yeast has been activated and is ready to use. If you don’t see a creamy frothy layer then discard the yeast and start over again.
  7. In a deep bowl, take plain flour.
  8. Add yeast-water mixture.
  9. Pour a little olive oil.

  15. Press the dough lightly to remove the air.
  16. Pour a little olive oil on the dough and also, grease your palms with it.
  17. Knead the dough of homemade pizza dough again to form a smooth pizza dough.

How to make basic pizza base

  1. To make pizza base at home, roll a portion into a 175 mm. (7”) diameter circle with the help of plain flour. While rolling the portion of the dough, keep the other 2 portions covered with the wet muslin cloth so that they do not dry up. If you want to get air pockets and a crisp dough, then don’t use a rolling pin and stretch the dough using your hands. This will prevent the popping of air bubbles.
  2. Prick the circle evenly using a fork so that it doesn’t puff up.
  3. Similarly, roll and prick out the remaining 2 circles and place all the 3 homemade pizza base on a baking tray. If you do not have an oven, then refer this recipe to make basic pizza base without oven.

   Hi Shreeya, Yes, you can make them today and use them tomorrow. Pizza crust can be stored at room temperature for a day. If not used then, it is better to refrigerate. But, remember to use it soon before it turns hard and unpalatable.

Hi , Where do I get dry yeast ? Is yeast compulsory if I make the pizza immediately after making the base ? Can anything else be used Instead of yeast like fruit salt / baking soda ?

   Hi Akila, You will need dry yeast and you can get it from super market, you will not be able to make it immediately.
