Ingredients


For Methiwali Arhar Dal
1 cup toovar (arhar) dal
1/2 cup chopped fenugreek (methi)
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1/4 cup chopped onions
2 tsp chopped garlic (lehsun)
2 tsp chopped ginger (adrak)
1 tsp chopped green chillies
1/4 cup chopped tomatoes
1 1/2 tsp chilli powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 tsp lemon juice
2 tsp oil
salt to taste

For Serving With Methiwali Arhar Dal
jeera rice / steamed rice

Method

For methiwali arhar dal

  1. To make {span class="bold1"}methiwali arhar dal{/span}, put the dal in a pressure cooker, add 2 cups water and pressure cook for 3 whistles. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid. Keep aside.
  2. Heat the oil in a non-stick pan, add the cumin seeds and allow them to crackle.
  3. Add the onions, garlic, ginger and green chillies and sauté on a medium flame for 2 minutes.
  4. Add the fenugreek leaves and sauté over high flame for 1 minute.
  5. Add the tomatoes, chilli powder and turmeric powder and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
  6. Add the cooked dal, salt and 1 cup of water, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 4 t o5 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
  7. Add the lemon juice, mix well and serve the {span class="bold1"}methiwali arhar dal{/span} hot with jeera rice or steamed rice.
