The Minty Jaljeera (Pudina Jaljeera) is a pleasure to sip on – and happens to be one of those drinks that is welcome in all seasons! Serve this appetising drink chilled, garnished with some crunchy boondi.

For Minty Jaljeera (pudina Jaljeera)
1/2 cup mint leaves (pudina) , torn into pieces
1/4 cup chopped coriander (dhania)
1/4 cup lemon juice
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp chopped ginger (adrak)
1 tbsp roasted cumin seeds (jeera)
1 1/2 tsp dried mango powder (amchur)
2 tsp black salt (sanchal)
2 tsp salt
5 to 6 ice-cubes

For The Garnish
4 tbsp boondi

  1. To make minty jaljeera (pudina jaljeera), combine the mint leaves, coriander, lemon juice, sugar, ginger, cumin seeds, dried mango pwder, black salt, salt and ¼ cup of water in a mixer and blend till smooth.
  2. Strain the mixture very well using a strainer.
  3. Add 3¾ cups of chilled water and ice-cubes and mix well.
  4. Pour equal quantities of the minty jaljeera (pudina jaljeera) into 4 individual glasses.
  5. Serve the minty jaljeera (pudina jaljeera) chilled garnished with 1 tbsp of boondi in each glass.

  1. Like Mint Jaljeera drink which is a  Home Remedy beverage. The mint jaljeera is a popular Indian beverage made using readily available ingredients. The jaljeera  can also, be made using a powder which is available in sachets in the market. But, this easy peasy minty jaljeera recipe is like the one sold by street vendors widely in the Northern Indian. The minty jaljeera (pudina jaljeera) is a refreshing drink that helps relieve stomach issues and has cooling properties making it a perfect thirst quencher in summers. Here are some more mint based drinks :

To make Mint Jaljeera

  1. Wash and clean the bunch of mint leaves. Separate the leaves from the twigs and roughly tear into pieces. Do not make use of the mint steams, your minty jaljeera might turn bitter. Keep the leaves aside.
  2. Also, wash, clean and chop the coriander leaves. Keep aside. Dhania is widely used in indian cuisine and also consists of many health benefits. You can read about some nutriotional facts here
  3. In a mixer jar, transfer the mint leaves. Mint leaves not only help in digestion, treating gastrointestinal problems but also flushes toxins from the body and have overall cooling properties.
  4. Add the coriander leaves. Coriander leaves have diuretic properties which means they contain a substance that tends to increase the discharge of urine thereby flushing out all the unnecessary toxins accumulated from our body. It also helps in purifying our blood.
  5. Now, add the lemon juice. Even a few drops of lemon jucie clear the digestive system and purify the liver.
  6. Add the sugar. Sugar is an optional ingredient which balances the tart from other ingredients.
  7. Add the ginger. Adrak is good for digestion too and a great anti-inflammatory ingredient.
  8. Add the cumin seeds. Cumin seeds have medicinal properties which aids digestion hence, minty jaljeera is drunk before the meals or in between meals.
  9. Add the dried mango powder. It provides the necessary sourness in turn making the jaljeera tangy. You can use kachri powder or chaat masala as a substitute.
  10. Add the black salt and salt. The sanchal powder has a distinctive taste which elevates the flavor of mint jaljeera.
  11. Finally, add ¼ cup of water.
  12. Close the lid and blend till smooth.
  13. Place a strainer on a deep bowl.
  14. Pour the prepared minty jaljeera and strain the mixture very well using a strainer. Discard the roughage.
  15. Add 3¾ cups of chilled water. To make jaljeera soda, replace the water with soda. But, the soda has to be added to the paste just before serving or else there will be no fizz left.
  16. Add the ice-cubes and mix well. Taste a little with spoon and adjust the flavours by adding extra salt or amchur powder.
  17. Pour equal quantities of the drink into 4 individual glasses.
  18. Garnish each glass with 1 tbsp of boondi. Serve the minty cumin lemonade chilled during hot summer days. The addition of boondi is optional.
