  1. To make methi dal dhokli, heat the ghee in a deep pan and add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, cloves, cinnamon, bayleaf, small round chillies and asafoetida. Sauté for 30 seconds.
  2. Add cooked dal, peanuts, 1 cup of water, kokum, tomatoes, turmeric powder, green chillies, chilli powder, ginger, jaggery and salt. Simmer for 10 minutes on a medium flame.
  3. Just before serving, add the dhoklis and cook it on a medium flame for 15 minutes, while stirring it occasionally.
  4. Switch off the flame, add the lemon juice and garnish with coriander. Mix well and serve methi dal dhokli hot.

  11. Add 3 cups cooked toovar (arhar) dal. To get 3 cups of cooked toovar dal, take ½ cup washed raw dal in a pressure cooker, add 3 cups of water and pressure-cook it for 3 whistles. Whisk well.
  12. Add 1 tbsp raw peanuts.
  13. Add 1 cup of water.
  14. Add 4 to 5 kokum, soaked in ¼ cup water.
  15. Add ¼ cup chopped tomatoes.
  16. Add ½ tsp turmeric powder (haldi). It gives the characteristic yellow colour.
  17. Add 4 slit green chillies. 
  18. Add ½ tsp chilli powder.
  19. Add 1 tsp grated ginger (adrak).
  20. Add 1 tsp grated jaggery (gur)
  21. Add salt to taste.
  22. Simmer for 10 minutes on a medium flame.
