Ingredients


For Moong Dal Sheera
1/2 cup yellow moong dal (split yellow gram)
1/2 cup ghee
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbsp almond (badam) slivers
1/4 tsp saffron (kesar) strands dissolved in 1 tbsp water
1/2 tsp cardamom (elaichi) powder

For The Garnish
1 tbsp almond (badam) slivers

Method

For moong dal sheera

  1. To make {span class="bold1"}moong dal sheera{/span}, soak the moong dal in enough warm water for 2 to 3 hours and drain well.
  2. Blend the moong dal in a mixer to a coarse paste without using any water.
  3. Place the moong dal paste into the muslin cloth and press to remove excess water. Remove the moong dal paste from the muslin cloth into a plate and separate it using a spoon. Keep aside.
  4. Heat the ghee in a broad non-stick pan, add the moong dal paste and cook on a medium flame for 10 to 12 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
  5. Add ½ cup of water and milk and mix well. Cover and cook on a slow flame for 1 to 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
  6. Add the sugar and almonds and mix well. Cover and cook on a slow flame for another 5 to 7 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
  7. Add the saffron-water mixture and cardamom powder and mix well
  8. Serve the {span class="bold1"}moong dal sheera{/span} hot garnished with almond slivers.
