A soup-style breakfast that you can prepare from leftover chapatis, Dahiwali Roti is flavourful yet easy to prepare.

You will surely enjoy the refreshing flavour of buttermilk, balanced well with jaggery, spice powders and an aromatic tempering.

Just make sure that the buttermilk is whisked well, perhaps using a hand blender, so that there are no lumps to ruin the appearance and mouth-feel of this dish. Serve fresh with a peppy garnish of coriander.

  1. Combine the curds with 1 cup of water in a deep bowl and mix well using whisk. Keep aside.
  2. Heat the oil in a deep non-stick pan and add the mustard seeds and urad dal.
  3. When the mustard seeds crackle, add the chapati pieces and sauté on a medium flame for a few seconds.
  4. Switch off the flame, add the curd-water mixture, turmeric powder, jaggery, chilli powder and salt.
  5. Switch on the flame, mix well and cook on a slow flame for 1 minute, while stirring continuously.
  6. Add the coriander, cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
  7. Serve immediately.

    How to make Dahiwali Roti

    1. Before we begin making the Dahiwali Roti,  in a deep bowl take 1 cup of fresh curd. We have used homemade curd made using this detailed recipe of.
    2. Mix well and pour 1 cup of water.
    3. Whisk very well to get curd-water mixture (buttermilk). You can even make use of a hand blender to get smooth buttermilk. Keep aside.
    4. To prepare Dahiwali Chapati, heat the oil in a deep non-stick pan.
    5. Once the oil is hot, add the mustard seeds.
    6. Add urad dal. Rai and urad dal gives a crunchy bite and beautiful aroma to vaghareli chapati.
    7. When the mustard seeds crackle, add the chapati pieces.
    8. Mix well and sauté on a slow flame for a few seconds. We want the chapati to be soft so, we won’t roast them much.
    9. Switch off the flame, add the curd-water mixture.
    10. Add turmeric powder.
    11. Add chilli powder as per the spice level you can handle & salt as per taste.
    12. Add jaggery.
    13. Switch on the flame, mix well and cook on a slow flame for 1 minute, while stirring continuously. It is important to bring the curd-water mixture to boil on a slow flame is necessary to prevent it from curdling. Our dahiwali roti is ready.
    14. Add the coriander, cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
    15. Serve Dahiwali Roti immediately. Roti Nu Shaak, Roti, Chapati Ladoo for Babies and Toddlers, Stuffed Paneer and Carrot Rice Roti Rolls are some recipes you can prepare using leftover roti.

    This recipe is a quick fix up, I make this when I have leftover rotis and want to eat something filling and easy to make... I suggest each one of u to def try it out

    This is one of my favourite quick dish.. It is proper one-meal dish. Buttermilk gives it a nice khatta mithha taste, while other spices enhances the taste of this recipe. It is not so spicy and everything is just to perfection. Whenever i am bored of having rotis,i make this dahiwali roti..

    This is the best way to make use of leftover rotis...it is so quick to make and at the same time also very filling...I add little more jaggery as compared to the recipe...Worth a try !
