In this sumptuous recipe, low-fat curds provides a tangy twist to toovar dal without adding much to the calorie count. To get the best texture and flavour, make sure you add the curds after lowering the flame so that it does not curdle. Apart from being low in fat, the other good news is that the Dahiwali Toovar Dal is a great bone builder as it is rich in calcium, protein and folic acid too.

Here we have added curds for additional flavour since the recipe is oil-free, however you can avoid the curds if you practice ayurvedic principles.

Real comfort food, and very easy and good. Great for a weeknight. I added some chopped, canned tomatoes and roasted red bell peppers (capsicums), which was delicious.

A good combination of dal with curds... Will try the same recipe with yellow moong dal also. I think that will taste equally good.
