Ingredients


For Cabbage Salad
2 cups shredded cabbage
1 tsp finely chopped green chillies
2 tbsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)

To Be Mixed Into A Dressing For Cabbage Salad
1 1/2 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp olive oil
1 tsp coriander (dhania) powder
1/4 tsp chilli powder
1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing)
1/4 tsp black salt (sanchal)
salt to taste

For the Cabbage Salad Dressing

  1. To make the dressing for Cabbage Salad, first take a medium sized bowl and squeeze out fresh lemon juice. 1½ lemon will give you approximately 1½ tsp of lemon juice. This perks up the taste of salad truly.
  2. Add olive oil to it. Preferably choose olive oil as it is rich in MUFA (Mono Unsaturated Fatty Acids) and thus beneficial to the heart and body.
  3. Add coriander powder to it. This gives a true Indian touch to the dressing.
  4. Add the chilli powder. This can be adjusted as per your liking.
  5. Add asafoetida. This is optional though.
  6. Add black salt. This has a distinct flavour which is different from salt. However if you don’t have it, adjust salt accordingly.
  7. Add salt as per taste. 
  8. Mix very well using a small spoon and keep aside.

For the Cabbage Salad

  1. To make Cabbage Salad, first take a deep bowl and then add shredded cabbage to it. When you buy cabbage, ensure that the leaves are not shriveled and there or no holes or black spots on the outer leaves. Around 150 grams of cabbage will yield 2 cups of shredded cabbage.
  2. Add finely chopped green chillies. Try and chop them very finely so that it doesn’t punch your throat at a go.
  3. Add finely chopped fresh coriander. This fresh herb complements very well as Cabbage Salad is an Indian Salad.

To Toss the Cabbage Salad

  1. Pour the prepared dressing evenly over the cabbage, green chillies and coriander.
  2. Toss the Cabbage Salad very well. Use 2 big spoons for tossing, as it helps in tossing the salad ingredients with the dressing uniformly.
  3. Serve the Cabbage Salad immediately to enjoy its crispiness and benefit the most from its nutrients.

In India , raw Cabbage should never be eaten , as it is grown in kacchi khad hence is a good source of worm infestation. As such , I request you to please modify your salad preperstion by using cabbage which is cut washed thouroghly & steamed in salt water for 5 min. , strained & put in cold water to retain its colour, then put for sometime in friz for keeping it crisp. Thank you.

SO delicious!!! I LOVED IT First time I''ve had the guts to use black salt; so I used less than called for, but next time I''ll go for it. And will use kashmir mirch for half the chili powder. Thank you so much, I''m so glad to have found this site!
